From canal-side eggs Benedict to Mexican brunch and fried chicken pancakes, these are my favorite brunch spots in Amsterdam.
Amsterdam is a great city for people who love brunch. During my years living in Amsterdam, I tried plenty of brunch spots, but a few really stood out. These are the brunch spots I continue to visit whenever I return to Amsterdam, and the places I send friends when they ask me for recommendations.
Eggs Benaddicted
Eggs Benaddicted is the spot I always recommend for classic brunch dishes done well, in a setting that feels very Amsterdam.
It's right on the Prinsengracht, and if you're lucky enough to get an outside table, you can eat brunch overlooking one of Amsterdam's canals.
The menu is full of brunch classics like eggs, pancakes, omelettes, and French toast, along with a few more unique options like their herby green omelette and vegan Aubergine Delight. I also recommend ordering some of their homemade bread and a coffee.
The atmosphere is friendly and lively, and it can get busy, so don't be surprised if you have to wait a little for a table.
It was also one of the most dog-friendly brunch spots I found in Amsterdam. Bindi was always warmly welcomed whenever we ate there.
Lupe
Lupe is one of my all-time favorite places for brunch in Amsterdam because they do something a little different: Mexican brunch.
Now, I know if you've tried Mexican food in Europe before, you might be hesitant to give this a go. But I promise, Lupe knows what they're doing.
It's a small brunch menu, but everything is executed perfectly. You can choose from huevos rancheros, chilaquiles, or mouthwatering barbacoa. Plus, some guacamole or frijoles to share. If you're like me, it'll be difficult not to order at least a few different things.
Save room for something sweet at the end too, because both their pan dolce and their homemade chocolate cake are irresistible.
Box Sociaal
Box Sociaal is one of the hottest brunch spots in Amsterdam, which is obvious from the line outside the door every weekend. If you can, go during the week when you can make a reservation, or try to arrive early to limit your wait.
Even if you end up in line for a bit, the food here is worth it. This is a super indulgent brunch place, where everything is done to the max. My favorite dish here, the sweet hot chick, is basically fried chicken, on a pancake, with fried eggs, dripping with a maple chili glaze. It's the kind of thing you definitely want to eat after a night out.
Little Collins
Little Collins is probably the coziest spot on this list. It's tucked away in the De Pijp neighborhood, and a little unassuming if you don't know it's there.
It's also not the place you go for typical eggs and pancakes. The brunch menu here highlights things like slow cooked beef short ribs with fried eggs, pistachio and saffron overnight oats, and poached eggs with smoked mackerel and fermented chili. It is one of the most inventive and delicious brunch spots I've been to anywhere in the world.
Flo's
While bagels might not technically qualify for brunch, I'd argue that the way they do them at Flo's makes them brunch-worthy.
Eating bagels abroad can kind of be like a game of roulette for your taste buds, but Flo's makes (in my opinion) the best bagels in Amsterdam. They also make some bagel sandwiches that will have you re-thinking what qualifies for breakfast. Things like a beef bulgogi bagel, a brisket bagel, and a tuna melt bagel. Or, if you're a purist, just a regular old bagel with cream cheese.
If you're craving something a little more casual, or something you can take away rather than a full sit-down brunch, Flo's is one of my favorite options in the city.
